The Bedford County Deputy Sheriff's
Association (BCDSA) is a non-profit organization founded in 1996. The
Association is made up of those Deputies currently employed by the
Sheriff's Office as well as some Deputies who have retired from duty but
still wish to remain active participants in the community
The Mission of the BCDSA is to unite employees who are Law Enforcement
officers toward a common goal;
"to
encourage social, charitable and educational activities among our
members".
Fund raising activities are held
throughout the year and ideas for activities are planned during monthly
meetings.
In the past, BCDSA has donated food and toys to needy families in
Bedford County during the holidays. Gift bags with personal items and
goodies were delivered to the County nursing home and Deputies visited
with the residents and shared some holiday cheer. Deputies also
distribute fingerprinting and identification kits to parents so that
their child's vital information is readily available should an emergency
arise.
Special events are held to raise funds for particular needs within the
community. A Deputy was aware of a physically disabled youngster in his
neighborhood that needed a personally designed bicycle in order for her
to be able to ride and play with the rest of the kids. Tears came to her
mother's eyes when Bedford Deputies delivered it to her house just
before her birthday. This youngster has been riding along with her
friends ever since.
The events that are held by the BCDSA are not only to raise funds for
needy causes, but for building community spirit and camaraderie among
all that live and work in this great county.
