Senior Volunteer Patrol (RSVP)

Brown is happy to announce the 3rd graduating class of the R.S.V.P.
team, acronym for Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol. Participants
completed a ten-day training seminar, preparing them for their duties
which include, parking lot security patrol, motorist assistance, funeral
traffic control, expired tag warnings, vacation home checks and a
multitude of assignments that are dispatched to the squad on a daily
basis.
“I am extremely proud of our RSVP team and their dedication to this
community”, says Brown, “I don't know how we ever got along without
them”. Sheriff Brown also urges citizens to express their thanks to this
team whenever you see them out and about. “They are volunteering their
time for the benefit and safety of all citizens. They deserve our thanks
and appreciation”.
This class is one of the first in the state to complete the C.A.T. Eyes
training, which is the Community Counter-terrorism program developed by
the Community Anti-Terrorism Training Institute and is endorsed by the
U.S. Department of Justice. The C.A.T. Eyes program has been compiled to
assist citizens to combat terrorism by enhancing neighborhood security,
heightening the community's powers of observation and encourage mutual
assistance and concern among neighbors.
Other required training includes Sheriff's Office code of ethics, the
senior services projects of S.C.A.L.E.S. and Project Lifesaver, Juvenile
Crimes, Crime Prevention, Internet Crimes, Media Relations, Traffic
Control, Fingerprinting procedures and Radar Equipment training.
Trainees are also taught defensive driving tactics, radio use and
protocols and CPR Training. All participants toured the 9-1-1
Communications center and were given a full tour of the Sheriff's Office
and the rolls of each agency employee.
Sheriff Brown wishes to thank all of those who volunteered their time
and shared their expertise with the class over the course of the
academy. Instructors included; RSVP Sgt. D. Parks, Cpl. D. MacKechnie,
RSVP Deputies Neudorfer, Bukaukas. Gregory and Walker. Also thank you to
AARP rep Annette Jackson, Bedford Social Services Robin Zimmerman,
Bedford 9-1-1 Tammy Goode and Sheriff's Office personnel Capt. Miller,
Capt. Gardner, Deputy R Robertson and Admin Officer R Sundquist-Smith.
A luncheon in honor of the new graduates was held at the Sheriff's
Office on Friday, March 28th where each was presented with a certificate
of completion.
