09.17	Another Bedford County Resident Arrested for Soliciting Minor and Undercover ICAC Task Force Officer for Sex BEDFORD – On September 10, 2007, the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office concluded an online internet investigation with the arrest of Richard Edward Doughty, age 46 of 304 Rolling Meadow Drive, Thaxton VA 24174.
09.14	Bedford County woman dead, man shot Two people are dead in what deputies are investigating as a murder/suicide Friday at a house off of Centerville Road just east of Bedford City.
09.06	Man Jailed on Sex Charges Against Kids A 41-year-old Hispanic male was arrested at the Goodwill Store on Route 221, Saturday evening following reports he allegedly fondled two females.

08.31	Citizen’s Police Academy Schedule Announced Sgt. David Marsh, Bedford County Sheriff’s Office, Community Services, has announced the schedule for the BCSO Citizen’s Police Academy, September 2007 class.
08.30	BCSO to Participate in Holiday Safety Blitz Bedford County Sheriff Mike Brown announced today that his Department will participate in the Labor Day Weekend’s “enforcement blitz” to promote safety on the area highways.
08.22	Sheriff Welcomes New R.S.V.P. Graduate Sheriff Brown is happy to announce the latest graduate of the R.S.V.P. team, acronym for Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol. Michael Stein completed the six week training program, preparing him for duties which include, parking lot security patrol, motorist assistance, funeral traffic control, expired tag warnings, vacation home checks and a multitude of assignments that are dispatched to the squad on a daily basis.
08.16	BCSO Investigators Aid Social Services…11 Year Sentence the Result! As a result of evidence developed by Bedford County Sheriff’s Office Investigators, working with Social Services, Chuck Lightfoot, an Evington man who molested a teenage girl--he also supplied with drugs--was sentenced to 11 years in prison on August 14th.
08.09	BCSO and VSP Seize Large Number of Marijuana Plants At 10:00 AM, Tuesday, August 7th, 2007, interdiction units of the Bedford County Sheriff's Office and Virginia State police, arrested Jack C. Stinespring at 2537 Lipscomb Road in Moneta, Virginia.
08.09	BCSO and Blue Ridge Thunder Investigating Multiple Child Sexual Abuse Case On August 7, 2007, Gregory D. Burton of Bedford County was arrested by the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office, Child Sexual Abuse Specialists, for the sexual abuse of six (6) children, all under the age of thirteen. The sheriff’s office is being assisted by the Department of Social Services.

08.01	Former Navy Cryptologist pleads guilty to Child Pornography charges NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Chuck Rosenberg, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia announced that Timothy Andrew Fugit, a former Navy Cryptologist, pled guilty to Distribution of Child Pornography and Coercion or Enticement of a Child on Friday July 20, 2007. He will be sentenced by the Honorable Jerome B. Friedman.

07.31	Another Suspected Child Sexual Predator Struck by Thunder BEDFORD CO., VA - Authorities say he thought he was meeting a minor for sex. Instead he met deputies ready to arrest him. Bedford County deputies arrested 22-year-old Samuel Wyar last week after they say he arranged a meeting with someone he thought was a minor.
07.18	Suspected Child Sexual Predator Struck by Thunder BEDFORD CO., VA - Blue Ridge Thunder investigators have caught another man they say is a sexual predator. Tuesday morning they arrested 21 year old Dickey Ray Smith, Junior at the Wendy's just off 460 in Bedford.
07.17	BCSO Warns About New Cell Laws Captain Kevin Adams, Officer-in-Charge of BCSO’s Patrol Division hopes that parents, and teen-age drivers are aware of the new law, governing the use of cell phones by teen-age drivers, which went into effect, July 1st, 2007.
07.16	Sheriff Urges Continued Vigilance Bedford County Sheriff Michael J. Brown is urging all Bedford County Citizens to continue to maintain their vigilance with regard to possible terrorism activities.
07.10	New Unit Nabs Sexual Predator On Friday, July 6, 2007, a member of the Bedford County Sheriff's Office Operation C-SORT (Sex Offender Registration and Tracking Unit) developed information that an unregistered sex offender was hiding from law enforcement in Henry County.
07.02	BCSO Recognized by Domestic Violence Services In June, five Deputies, and Lieutenant Darryl Saunders, were presented awards by Bedford Domestic Violence Services. Connie St. John, Director of Bedford Domestic Violence Services, was present as Virginia Attorney General Robert McDonnell presented the fourth annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Day Awards.

05.31	Urgent Press Release: Armed Robbery Bedford County Sheriff's Office investigators are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at the Quickee Food Store on Forest Rd. in Forest on Wednesday night at approximately 11:30pm.
05.01	Sheriff Mike Brown Presents “Outstanding Citizen” Award to Ginger Krantz Ginger G. Krantz was recognized and appreciated by Sheriff Mike Brown as being Bedford’s most “Outstanding Citizen” for her prompt reporting of a vehicle situation on Route 460, which could have turned deadly had the driver continued unnoticed.

04.30	BCSO CPA, Near Half-Way Point The current session of BCSO’s Citizens Police Academy, which started on February 20th, 2007, will cross its half-way point this month, according to Sergeant David Marsh.
04.26	Major drug dealer arrested On 04/25/07, the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office, Drug Interdiction Unit, arrested Mickey D. Leonard, 1189 Foilage Lane, Montvale, Virginia, and charged him with Possession and Transport of Firearm by a Felon, Transporting Firearm while in Possession of Narcotics, and Manufacture, Sale, Possession of Controlled Substance, to wit Heroin.
04.25	Police shootings spark talk of tasers (new window) The suicidal 23-year-old man had a knife in each hand and was raising one above his head as he moved to within five feet of the Bedford County deputies. Suddenly, he dropped both knives and collapsed to the floor of his mother's home, said Capt. Kevin Adams of the Bedford County Sheriff's Office.
