Sheriff Welcomes New R.S.V.P. Graduate
Sheriff
Brown is happy to announce the latest graduate of the R.S.V.P.
team, acronym for Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol. Michael Stein
completed the six week training program, preparing him for
duties which include, parking lot security patrol, motorist
assistance, funeral traffic control, expired tag warnings,
vacation home checks and a multitude of assignments that are
dispatched to the squad on a daily basis.

Year Sentence the Result!
As a result of evidence developed by
Bedford County Sheriff’s Office Investigators, working with
Social Services, Chuck Lightfoot, an Evington man who molested a
teenage girl--he also supplied with drugs--was sentenced to 11
years in prison on August 14th.

10:00 AM, Tuesday, August 7th, 2007, interdiction units of the
Bedford County Sheriff's Office and Virginia State police,
arrested Jack C. Stinespring at 2537 Lipscomb Road in Moneta,

BCSO and Blue Ridge Thunder Investigating Multiple Child Sexual Abuse Case
On
August 7, 2007, Gregory D. Burton of Bedford County was arrested
by the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office, Child Sexual Abuse
Specialists, for the sexual abuse of six (6) children, all under
the age of thirteen. The sheriff’s office is being assisted by
the Department of Social Services.

Former Navy Cryptologist pleads guilty to Child
Pornography charges
NEWPORT NEWS, VA
- Chuck Rosenberg, United
States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia announced
that Timothy Andrew Fugit, a former Navy Cryptologist, pled
guilty to Distribution of Child Pornography and Coercion or
Enticement of a Child on Friday July 20, 2007. He will be
sentenced by the Honorable Jerome B. Friedman.

Suspected Child Sexual Predator Struck by Thunder
BEDFORD
CO., VA - Authorities say he thought he was meeting a minor for
sex. Instead he met deputies ready to arrest him. Bedford County
deputies arrested 22-year-old Samuel Wyar last week after they
say he arranged a meeting with someone he thought was a minor.

man they say is a sexual predator. Tuesday morning they arrested
21 year old Dickey Ray Smith, Junior at the Wendy's just off 460

Major drug dealer arrested

04/25/07, the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office, Drug Interdiction
Unit, arrested Mickey D. Leonard, 1189 Foilage Lane,
Montvale, Virginia, and charged him with Possession and
Transport of Firearm by a Felon, Transporting Firearm while in
Possession of Narcotics, and Manufacture, Sale, Possession of
Controlled Substance, to wit Heroin.

Police shootings spark talk of tasers

suicidal 23-year-old man had a knife in each
hand and was raising one above his head as he
moved to within five feet of the Bedford County
deputies. Suddenly, he dropped both knives and
collapsed to the floor of his mother's home,
said Capt. Kevin Adams of the Bedford County
Sheriff's Office.
