Deputy Jon Wilks Named Deputy Of The Month

Bedford, VA – Sheriff Mike Brown is proud to announce the Deputy of Month for April is Deputy Jon Wilks of the Road Division. Deputy Wilks was first to respond to a call where a subject was threatening to shoot himself and warned that he would shoot any law enforcement personnel that he saw coming toward him.

When Sgt. Steve Smith arrived at the scene, he found Deputy Wilks negotiating with the suspect on the phone. Deputy Wilks was successful in convincing the suspect to exit the house and leave his weapon behind. The suspect was then taken into custody without further incident.

Sheriff Brown commends Deputy Wilks for defusing this potentially dangerous situation, without injury to the suspect or to officers involved.
