R.S.V.P. Graduates Sheriff's Office Volunteer Program
Bedford, VA – Sheriff Mike Brown is please to announce the graduation of the latest R.S.V.P. Deputy, Gary Treadway, is a resident of Forest, Virginia.
The R.S.V.P. program,(Retired Senior Volunteer Patrol) established in 2001, is currently twenty members strong, all of whom completed the two-week training course held at the Sheriff’s office in preparation for their patrol duties. Subjects studied include crime prevention techniques, traffic control methods, radio usage, defensive driving tactics and much more.
R.S.V.P. duties include parking lot security patrol, motorist assistance, funeral traffic control, house checks requested by residents and many assignments that are dispatched to the patrol on a daily basis.
“The dedication demonstrated by this team is incredible”, said Sheriff Brown, “We don’t know how we ever got along without them. Aside from the fact that they are saving the county thousands of dollars by freeing up road officers, they are to be commended for their enthusiasm to the public and their and devotion to this agency and the entire county.”
R.S.V.P. members are issued uniforms, radios and badge numbers. BCSO currently has two “Volunteer” marked vehicles which are used on regular patrols and for other special assignments.
Citizens interested in becoming a part of the R.S.V.P.
program are urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office for an application and
schedules of upcoming training classes.
