Sheriff Brown and BCSO, Special Assistant
Dr. Gary Reynolds Address Educational Technology Leadership Conference
With the increasing concern over the use of the Internet to commit crimes against children, the Bedford County Sheriff, and a senior staff assistant were selected to appear at the Twelfth Annual Educational Technology Leadership Conference, which was held at the Hotel Roanoke, November 29-December 1, 2006.
On November 29th, Dr. Gary Reynolds, BCSO Special Assistant, discussed the Department’s Operation Blue Ridge Thunder before a group of 35 educators. He emphasized Internet safety issues, and identified the resources available for school divisions.
The following day, Sheriff Brown served as a Guest Panelist, along with the Superintendent of Public Instruction, a representative of the Attorney General’s Computer Crime Unit, and other distinguished educators and legal experts.
The purpose of this session was to discuss issues related to Internet safety, Virginia laws--including the new mandatory Internet safety instruction-- which Sheriff Brown was instrumental in getting passed into law, child development psychology, law enforcement, and technology pertaining to personal-identity safety.
