Sheriff Mike Brown Presents “Outstanding Citizen”
Award to Ginger Krantz

Ginger
G. Krantz was recognized and appreciated by Sheriff Mike Brown as being
Bedford’s most “Outstanding Citizen” for her prompt reporting of a
vehicle situation on Route 460, which could have turned deadly had the
driver continued unnoticed. This recognition took place at the Bedford
County Sheriff’s Office on Friday afternoon, April 20, 2007 in the
presence of her parents, devoted uncle, and other friends. As a citizen
who went above and beyond her call of duty to help protect the citizens
of Bedford County, Ginger Krantz is only the second person to receive
this appreciation.
On January 26, 2007, Ginger G. Krantz notified the
Bedford County Sheriff’s Office of a vehicle she observed as being
driven in a dangerous and uncontrolled manner. Deputy Key and Sergeant
Steve Smith responded immediately and were able to bring to a
standstill, the recklessly operated car.
The driver of the vehicle, 66-year-old Mrs. Barbara
Burton accompanied by her mother, Mrs. Roberta Kennedy, was suffering
from elevated blood sugar and did not have her medication at hand.
Deputy Key and Sergeant Smith quickly recognized the symptoms of a
diabetic crisis and Mrs. Burton was immediately transported to Bedford
Memorial Hospital where she received immediate care.
Mrs. Burton, the driver of the vehicle, has expressed her appreciation
to the keen response of Ginger Krantz, and is forever grateful for the
fast action and concern for safety of this caring and outstanding
citizen. Had Ginger Krantz not acted as quickly as she did, the outcome
would have undoubtedly been disastrous.
