Captain Kevin Adams,
Officer-in-Charge of BCSO’s Patrol Division hopes that parents, and
teen-age drivers are aware of the new law, governing the use of cell
phones by teen-age drivers, which went into effect, July 1st, 2007.
Adams says, the law, designed to
reduce the increasing number of vehicular accidents caused by the
use of cell phones by teen-age drivers will be enforced in Bedford
County. Adams says, “Its purpose is to save lives!”
The law, which was passed by the
General Assembly during this year’s Session, says, “driving while on
the phone is illegal for anyone under 18.” The law also prohibits
teens with a provisional license from using a cell phone while
driving, except in emergencies.”
Drivers younger than 18”can’t send
text messages or take photos with their phones, either. Hands-free
devices, such as the trendy Bluetooth earpieces and built-in
speakerphones, are also banned.”
The maximum fine is $250.00.
