Lynchburg Resident Arrested for
Possession of Child Pornography
BEDFORD – On September 13, 2007, the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office concluded a child pornography investigation with the arrest of Randy David Layne, age 29 of 8108 Timberlake Road, Apt. 111, Lynchburg, VA 24502.
The investigation included officers and deputies from the Suffolk County Police Department (affiliate member of the New York State Police ICAC Task Force), Bedford County Sheriff’s Office (lead agency of the SOVA-ICAC) and officers from the Lynchburg Police Department who assisted in the arrest of Randy Layne.
During the investigation, Mr. Layne purchased child pornography from a website under investigation by authorities in Suffolk County, New York, in 2005. The Suffolk County Police Department requested the assistance of the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office for further investigation. A search warrant was executed at Layne’s prior residence located on Weeping Willow Drive, Lynchburg, VA, on March 10, 2006. Several computers and pieces of media were seized during the search warrant. During a preliminary forensics of the evidence, numerous images of child pornography were located on seized media. Randy Layne was charged with 5 counts of: (18.2-374.1:1) Possession of Child Pornography. Additional charges may be pending in Lynchburg City.
Randy Layne is currently incarcerated and being held without bond in the Blue Ridge Regional Jail as the investigation continues.
