Press Release
Bedford Sheriff Seeks Mobile Office
The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office is
planning to expand its facilities to include a mobile office
building on Falling Creek Road.
The new building, to be placed on Falling
Creek Road just south of an intersection with South Park Drive,
should provide much-needed space.
“We’re running out of office space,” Captain
Michael W. Miller said. “We’ve needed a unit for a couple of
years.”
The Sheriff’s Office didn’t have to look far
to find one.
It is proposing to relocate a mobile unit
from Jefferson Forest High School, Miller said. The school has
been using such units in the midst of a major campus renovation
project.
Two decks consisting of a combined 72 square
feet are proposed for the unit’s front and rear.
For it to move forward, the county’s planning
commission has to approve the relocation, which it’s scheduled
to consider on Nov. 19.
Two smaller office units were placed on
county-owned land next to the main office five years ago. An
animal shelter and the fire and rescue department are also
located on the property.
The new unit would use the existing entrance
that currently serves all three locations. No additional parking
is needed for the new building.
